The Cowshed - Our Recommendations And Favourite Places To Visit

One of our favourite walks is from Castle Drogo (National Trust) https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/castle-drogo at Drewsteignton, there is the Hunters Path or Fishermans path so you can do a circular walk with The Fingle Bridge Inn on the river half way for a pint or a heart meal or snack. Amazing views from high path and beautiful river walk too.

Lydford Gorge National Trust  https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lydford-gorge is a challenging gorge walk, shorter route available with tea rooms at either end and Devil’s Cauldron for the brave.

We love Bellever Forest, passing Postbridge with its ancient clapper bridge, you can find a quiet spot for a picnic

Wistmans wood is an ancient twisted, atmospheric wood, and you can call in at Two Bridges Hotel (Duchy owned) for amazing cream tea, a drink or a meal, walking boots welcome!

Foggin Tor Quarry (Bear Grylls took Gareth Southgate) lovely walk from Princetown and you can swim there. Here are cycle paths, road routes and off road, we can supply maps etc

Our local villages of North Bovey and Manaton also have lovely walks and pubs, Bowerman’s Nose rock formation and Haytor are also not far – we can also give you many more places to visit when you are here

If you don’t mind jumping in the car, 5 minutes down the road is the village of Chagford where there are also a range of very good eateries. The Three Crowns and the Chagford Inn to name just two. A similar distance away in Sandy Park is the Mill End another coaching house with excellent food; fantastic Sunday lunch.
